Emergency Mylar Blanket 12-Pack at amazon for $12 FS eligible Now $11.22
Lowest price I have ever seen
These usually sell for ~$4 apiece, with 4-Packs going for $8-$12 plus shipping. The one time you need to use one, it will more than pay for the entire 12-Pack. Keep them in your car(s), in your house(s), and share with friends and family. Each is 52" x 84" - takes no more space than a deck of cards, and weighs far less. Individually packed, these make excellent, thoughtful, and low-cost gifts without being cheap. Sold by BigFlySports and BP MEDICAL SUPPLIES, Fulfilled by Amazon. While both are reputable, there has been feedback left by several customers on various items about the slow shipping by BP. |

QWAK,I bought 50 of them about 15 years ago :yes:to hand out as emergency supplies at about that price and a couple years back opened a fiew to use as LIGHT reflectors in the green house. Several had problems with the silvering coming off along the edges. :thumb.aspx:
IF you intend to put them in your car it may be a good idea :thinkey: to put them in a heavy ZIP LOCK bag to keep the dampness from harming the silvering AND somthing to stuff them in after using them! :ok: I made up little hand out kits in empty Folgers instent coffee containers,a blanket, some TP,matches, some string and some DUCK tape and two emergency candles. A can of TUNA and what I can spaire to help them on there way, for the "NICE ZOMBI trick or treaters" --- the ones I don't have to SHOOT!:36_3_13: :111: :cry1: the DUCK :15_1_70v: |
Re: Emergency Mylar Blanket 12-Pack at amazon for $12 FS eligible Now $11.22
Have you ever tried to use one of those things? Nice idea but not worth a dam. The blanket doesn't actually insulate, it only reflects body heat back to your body. Any body part exposed to air circulation remains cold. If you carefully cover every part and don't move, you soon have more heat than you can stand and are sweating heavily. So you let in some air and zap! your sweat freezes to your skin. You can't sleep, you have to constantly move around to get fresh air to the sweaty parts and reflective heat to the frozen parts.
But they do reflect radar. Maybe that's of some use. |

Ok, so they worked for some people. I only tried one once and would not even consider using one again.

these blankets save about 28% on our AC bills every summer
My husband is an engineer & he likes to calculate the actual costs & savings of just about any energy efficient item (what can I say? he doesn't gamble, chase women or cars so I guess I'll keep him). We put these cheap plastic silver blankets on our windows in the summer and it really saves a lot on our electricity bill (we have a large house) and the house feels more relaxing because we can keep the house cooler. And in a house the size of ours, saving well over 25% each month in the summer adds up on savings during the heavy duty cooling season.
We hang the silver blanet between the window blinds and the window (don't adhere them to the window or you can build up too much heat on the sun side, just let them hang behind the blinds or curtains) and I use small binder clips to attach them to the top of the blinds or the curtain rods or whatever window treatment you are using. I like to trim the edges of the silver blanket so we don't see the silver on the inside of the room but when my daughter used these on the windows of her unairconditioned dorm room, they incorporated the silver blanket as a part of their decorations in the dorm room (to each, her own). The silver blankets are see through but not 100% see through so you can see out your window during the day, it's like looking through a gauze curtain. They are not see through at night though because it's dark outside. We've talked about them to the neighbors & told them how much we $saved over the summer & the neighbors have started to use them in their houses too. I agree that for outdoor use, the blankets are one time use for conductive body heat or to keep the rain off of you. But they are great for summer time window insulators to save electricity. |
